About Erin Rue, CPA
Get to know me and you’ll find it’s no secret I have a passion for craft beer. But what you may not realize is that it’s not just about tasting and adoring these specialty brews. A big part of this love affair is simply about being amid that unique craft beer culture that’s so accepting, laid-back, and yet conscientious of the world in which we live, work, and play. So some time ago, while doing a bit of research about how to redirect my CPA career, I had one of those “lightbulb moments.” Not only could I adapt my career to cater to such Northwest-produced beverage businesses but many of these companies were also thirsty for my services. In fact, among the beer + friends (or wine, hard cider, craft liquors, etc.) niche, many business owners lacked that critical, expert accountant who really understood their trade and knew the regulations of the agriculture, alcohol, and manufacturing industries.
As The Beer CPA, I’ve built a successful business that offers a full menu of accounting and controller services specifically tailored to the needs of today’s Pacific Northwest breweries and wineries. Of note, my business model doesn’t just include me and my services. I purposefully pull from a pool of carefully selected collaborators who provide occasional client guidance or support as needed. Together, we are The Beer CPA, this region’s first and only CPA firm dedicated to craft beer, hard cider, and wine business.
Based in The Dalles, Ore., The Beer CPA is focused on producing results for clients while maintaining sustainable, controlled growth. My career background includes extensive experience in public accounting at a mid-size regional accounting firm. Prior to that, I worked in marketing and destination tourism—both of which further position me to better serve my beverage-based clients today. I don’t just meet their accounting needs but I get what they’re going through in terms of marketing, growth, and economic demands. Fully, holistically knowing my clients—their needs, desires, and dreams—is not just what I hope to do but it is what I do.
